The defense team of Vice President Sara Duterte has submitted a list of witnesses it wants summoned to testify in her impeachment trial, with hearings scheduled from Nov. 9 to 13.
The Impeachment Court received two formal requests for subpoenas on Nov. 4, 2026, in compliance with its five-day notice requirement.
The 24 requested witnesses include corporate representatives, city officials, bank executives and legal professionals who are expected to provide testimony and documents concerning allegations against Duterte.
Among them are corporate counsel Suzette Balucanag-Punay, who is expected to testify on the alleged business interests of Duterte in Gencorp Industries Inc. and Metro City Chaw Foods Corp.
Davao City Assessor Jaime Adalin and Island Garden City of Samal Assessor John Kenneth Enumerables are being asked to present property tax declarations, tax maps and related records concerning properties discussed during the prosecution's presentation.
Davao City Accountant Vingelin Bajan is also being summoned to provide payroll records and documents detailing Duterte's compensation while she held public office in the city.
Matina Crossing Barangay Chairperson Cindy Colina is expected to identify documents concerning the barangay's creation, official name and other names by which it is known.
The defense also wants representatives from eight banks — BDO Unibank, Bank of the Philippine Islands, EastWest Bank, Land Bank of the Philippines, Metrobank, Philippine Savings Bank, Security Bank and UnionBank — to testify and present records of requests made by Duterte or her husband, Manases Carpio, in 2026, along with the banks' responses and related documents.
Four other individuals — Anel Martin S. Antero, Chadrin S. Parian, Vimar M. Barcellano and another legal professional — are also being requested to provide testimony to counter allegations and factual claims against Duterte under Article II of the Articles of Impeachment, which probes an alleged culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust.
Meanwhile, former University of St. La Salle Vice Chancellor for Administration and law professor Dean Ralph Sarmiento declined the defense team's invitation to testify.
Sarmiento had been invited to discuss legal and constitutional principles relevant to the impeachment case, particularly Article II.
The court said the presiding officer would review the subpoena requests and act on them in accordance with its rules of procedure and standards on relevance and admissibility.
