Two individuals, identified as a married couple operating a pet crematorium in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, have voluntarily surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) over the alleged improper disposal of dead dogs and cats instead of cremating them.
NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag said the couple admitted burying the animal remains at three separate dumpsites after receiving large volumes of dead pets from Ahjay Paws Aftercare Pet Crematorium, which operates in Bacoor, Cavite, RH Jecelle Ricafort reported.
According to Matibag, the Bacoor-based establishment had no equipment or facilities to perform cremation, prompting it to send the remains to the couple's facility in Bulacan.
“Wala siya ng equipment to do the cremation. So pinadala niya roon. Malaki yung volume nun dumarating, according to the confession mismo nitong mag-asawa na nagra-run ng crematorium sa San Jose del Monte. So ang ginawa nila, inilibing nila,” Matibag said.
The NBI director added that the couple was initially supposed to supply cremation equipment to the Bacoor establishment but failed to deliver it, resulting in the couple taking responsibility for cremating the animals.
Matibag also confirmed that the bureau had identified and located three dumpsites where the remains were allegedly buried.
The NBI is preparing to file six cases against Ahjay Paws Aftercare Pet Crematorium in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, Bacoor City Mayor Strike Revilla had earlier ordered the closure of the establishment following complaints from around 250 pet owners filed with the Bacoor Police Station.
