Senate President Win Gatchalian has questioned why some Filipinos have yet to avail themselves of the estate tax amnesty despite its implementation three times since 2019.

Gatchalian proposed reviewing the existing 6% estate tax rate and simplifying the payment process to address barriers preventing families from transferring inherited properties to their names.

He particularly highlighted agricultural lands in remote areas, where heirs may face difficulties completing the requirements and settling estate tax obligations.

The proposed review seeks to identify the reasons behind the low availment of the amnesty and explore measures that would help more families formalize ownership of inherited properties.
