Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Giovanni “Banoy” Lopez on Tuesday confirmed receiving reports that some agency personnel were helping lawmakers complete requirements for projects seeking inclusion in the national budget.

In an interview on DZRH’s Dos Por Dos program, Lopez acknowledged receiving information about DPWH personnel assisting a congressman in pursuing project requirements.

“Meron akong natanggap. Mga DPWH yata matulungin eh. Ang sinabi ko na lang engineer sila, hindi doktor,” Lopez said.

He was also asked about reports that incorrect coordinates submitted for proposed projects were being corrected.

Lopez said there was no issue with correcting coordinates if the errors were merely typographical mistakes.

Meanwhile, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon stressed that proposed projects must be properly planned and aligned with the needs of local communities.

“Wala naman hong problema sa project basta ito ay naplano nang tama,” the DOTr chief said.

Dizon said projects must also be properly coordinated with local government units (LGUs) to ensure they are consistent with local development plans.

He recalled previous instances in which mayors and governors were unaware of projects being proposed in their jurisdictions, stressing that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. does not want such situations to happen again.

Dizon noted that Marcos, who previously served as governor of Ilocos Norte, understands the importance of ensuring that infrastructure projects are aligned with local plans and community needs.
