International Criminal Court (ICC) Trial Chamber III Presiding Judge Joanna Korner said former President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to attend his trial hearings daily when proceedings begin on November 30, 2026.
This follows Duterte's decision to waive his right to attend the fifth and final status conference on Monday, November 2, ahead of his trial on charges of crimes against humanity.
“Once the actual trial starts, we will expect attendance on a daily basis,” Korner said.
Duterte's defense lawyer, Peter Haynes, agreed with the court's position and assured the chamber of the former president's attendance during the trial.
Duterte faces crimes against humanity charges in connection with killings linked to his administration's war on drugs.
