The Visayas power grid will be placed under yellow alert from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, due to limited power reserves following the tripping of Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) Unit 3.

Based on the grid status update as of 1:30 p.m., the Visayas grid has an available capacity of 2,655 megawatts (MW) against a projected peak demand of 2,551 MW.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) explained that a yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid's contingency requirement.

The latest alert declaration was partly triggered by the tripping of PEDC Unit 3.

The grid operator also reported that several power plants remain on forced outage, while 23 other plants are operating at reduced capacities, resulting in a combined 833.2 MW of unavailable capacity.

A yellow alert does not automatically mean that power interruptions will occur, but it indicates that the available power reserves are insufficient to meet the required contingency level.

Consumers are advised to practice energy conservation, particularly during peak demand hours.
